Who are William Grant?
William Grant are a well-established Scottish distillery business with multiple sites across the UK. For this project, we completed an installation at a distillery in Richmond, London, where a modern and reliable swing gate solution was required to manage staff access within a busy reception environment. The site experiences heavy daily footfall, making controlled and automated access a key operational requirement.
What Challenge Did the Distillery Face?
The site required a new entrance control system that could integrate seamlessly with its existing Paxton Access Control infrastructure while keeping all hardware neatly housed within the turnstiles themselves. Additionally, the installation had to be completed during evenings and weekends to minimise disruptions to daily operations. Our challenge was to deliver a secure, high-capacity solution that worked reliably during peak staff movement while maintaining a clean and professional appearance within the reception area.
What Were Our Goals for This Project?
Our goal was to design and install an access control system that matched the aesthetic standards of the reception space while handling high volumes of staff movement efficiently. We needed to include a dedicated swing gate lane for DDA access and provide a smooth, automated experience for all users. It was also essential that the system functioned independently without requiring staff supervision, while integrating fully with the site’s existing Paxton access control system.
Project Breakdown
The project involved the installation of a twin-lane UKT-26 speed gate turnstile system alongside a UKT-115 fully automatic swing gate turnstile to provide DDA-compliant access. We supplied and installed Paxton access control hardware to extend the site’s existing system, ensuring consistency and reliability across all entry points. Stainless steel posts with clear panel infills were installed to section off the main reception area, preventing users from bypassing the turnstile swing gate layout. A key technical element of the project was the addition of customised Perspex wings on the speed gates, allowing the design to fit precisely within the existing opening. This approach delivered a secure and visually cohesive automated speed gate solution.
Timeline
The installation took place over three days in January 2024. All works were completed during evenings and weekends, ensuring that normal site operations were not disrupted. By the end of the project, the speed gate installation was fully complete, tested, and operational.

The completed installation delivered a fully automated entrance control system that operates efficiently without the need for staff management. The combination of access control speed gates and a dedicated automatic speed gate for DDA access has significantly improved traffic flow and site security.
