Speed gates provide a fast and secure way to control entry into a building, and they’re often the first thing a visitor notices when they walk in. As access control specialists, we design, supply and install speed gates across the UK, from single-lane reception gates to multi-lane systems built for constant, high-volume footfall. Whether you’re replacing an ageing turnstile, fitting out a new headquarters, or specifying entrance control for a building that needs to look as good as it performs, our speed gates are built to do both.

What Is a Speed Gate?

A speed gate is an automated entry barrier that opens and closes in a fraction of a second to let one authorised person through at a time, usually via a pair of glass or acrylic wings set into a slim stainless steel housing. Infrared sensors detect anyone attempting to pass without authorisation, making a speed gate turnstile one of the most secure entry options available.

All of our automatic speed gates integrate directly with access control systems, including card and fob readers, QR codes, facial recognition and mobile credentials, and can be configured to sound an alarm if someone attempts to tailgate. That combination of speed, security and a premium finish is why speed gates have become the standard choice for offices, universities, transport hubs and any site where first impressions and throughput both matter.

Why Speed Gates Are Worth the Investment

A speed gate costs more than a basic turnstile, and it earns that difference back. Fewer staff are needed to monitor entry once a lane is automated and alarmed against tailgating. Unauthorised access becomes far easier to prevent. And for buildings competing for tenants, staff or members, corporate offices, universities, premium leisure sites – a well-specified speed gate is part of the building’s overall impression, not just its security. It’s why we position speed gates as a long-term investment in a site, not a like-for-like turnstile swap.

Key Features of Our Speed Gates

Fast, high-throughput entry

Most lanes clear a person in under a second, so speed gates keep queues moving even at peak times.

Smart access control compatibility

Our access control speed gates work with card tokens, fobs, QR codes, facial recognition and mobile credentials out of the box.

Modern, discreet design

Slim glass or acrylic wings and a stainless steel housing suit corporate receptions as much as industrial entrances.

Smooth, quiet operation

Engineered to run reliably through thousands of daily cycles without disrupting a reception environment.

Space-saving, bi-folding options

For lobbies where a full-width barrier isn’t practical, bi-folding wings deliver the same security in a smaller footprint.

Accessible lane widths

Wider, DDA-compliant lanes accommodate wheelchair users, buggies and deliveries without compromising security or the look of the entrance.

Choose the Right Speed Gate for Your Site

We manufacture five speed gate models, each built around a different priority, from premium corporate reception to external, weatherproof entrances.

If you’re not sure which model fits your entrance, our team can survey the site and recommend the right lane width, speed and finish.

UKT-25 Speed Gate

The UKT-25 speed gate is a premium stainless steel access control gate designed for commercial buildings and corporate environments. Its dual-mode operation allows sites to switch between high-flow access and high-security control, making it ideal for entrances that require both flexibility and performance. Built for durability and a high-quality finish, the UKT-25 is suited to offices, headquarters, and high-end facilities where both security and aesthetics are important.

UKT-26 Speed Gate

The UKT-26 speed gate is a highly configurable access control gate designed to adapt to different environments and pedestrian flow requirements. With 8 adjustable speed settings, it allows sites to fine-tune performance from controlled entry in quieter spaces to fast-flow access in busy commercial buildings. Combining smooth operation with reliable safety detection, the UKT-26 is ideal for locations that require precise control over how people

UKT-27 Speed Gate

The UKT-27 speed gate is a high-throughput access control gate designed for busy environments where large volumes of people need to pass quickly and efficiently. Capable of handling up to 60 persons per minute, it is ideal for gyms, leisure facilities, and high-traffic sites where durability and consistent performance are essential. Built to withstand demanding use, the UKT-27 provides reliable, fast-flow access without creating bottlenecks at peak times.

UKT-28 External Speed Gate

The UKT-28 speed gate is a fully IP65-rated external access control gate designed for outdoor environments and direct exposure to the elements. Built for reliable operation in rain, dust, and temperature variation, it provides secure pedestrian access without the need for covered conditions. Combining durable construction with a high-quality finish, the UKT-28 is ideal for perimeter entrances, estates, and external commercial sites.

UKT-29 Speed Gate

The UKT-29 speed gate is a scalable access control gate designed for multi-lane installations and high-traffic entrances. Built to manage efficient pedestrian flow across wider entry points, it is ideal for busy lobbies, offices, and commercial environments where multiple lanes are required. Combining reliable operation with a clean, professional finish, the UKT-29 is suited to sites that need to balance capacity, performance, and a streamlined entrance layout.

Speed Gates Across Every Sector

We install speed gates in corporate offices, transport hubs, universities and colleges, data centres, gyms, leisure centres and stadiums across the UK; the model and configuration just change to suit the environment.

Speed Gates in Action

At the University of Chester’s Wheeler Main Entrance, we replaced an uncontrolled, manned reception point with two sets of triple-lane UKT-29 speed gates. The existing entrance couldn’t accommodate off-the-shelf infill panels, so we manufactured bespoke gate openings to fit the space exactly, and pre-installed the university’s own access control hardware into each gate before it reached site. The full installation was completed in two working days, and it’s since led to discussions about fitting speed gates at four further locations across the campus.

We’ve delivered similar projects at Millennium House in Belfast, where speed gates replaced an outdated reception system, and at 17 Newman Street in London, where security speed gates were paired with Salto access control for a premium office fit-out. You can browse further examples in our case studies.

Speed Gate Installation and Aftercare

As an experienced speed gate installer, we handle the full process: a site survey to confirm lane width and layout, bespoke manufacture where a standard opening won’t fit, speed gate installation, and commissioning of your access control hardware. Most installations are completed within two to five working days, depending on the number of lanes and any integration work required, and we plan around your building’s operating hours to minimise disruption.

Every installation comes with a 12-month warranty and ongoing aftercare, so if you ever need speed gate repair or routine servicing, it’s covered by the same team that installed the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does speed gate installation take?

Most projects are completed in two to five working days, depending on the number of lanes and whether bespoke gate openings or additional access control integration are required. Site surveys are carried out beforehand so timelines are confirmed before work starts.

Speed gates only open once a valid credential – a card, fob, QR code, biometric scan or mobile pass – has been read, and the lane can be set to lock and trigger an alarm if someone attempts to follow an authorised user through (tailgating). Some sites also pair pedestrian speed gates with CCTV or manned oversight for an added layer of monitoring.

Bi-folding speed gates use wings that fold rather than swing outward, so they take up less space to either side of the lane. They’re a useful option for narrower lobbies or entrances where a standard speed gate wouldn’t fit without reducing walkway width.

There’s no single price we can quote for a speed gate, because the right system depends entirely on the site. A university expecting three thousand students moving through at once needs as many lanes as possible to keep that flow moving quickly, while a smaller office reception might only need one. Lane count, available space, and how many people will be using the gates each day all shape the recommendation — and just as importantly, so does the experience of the people walking through them, not only the security and monitoring side. Because of that, we survey every site individually rather than working from a price list. Get in touch and we’ll give you a fixed quote based on your entrance, footfall, and requirements

For any site with meaningful daily footfall, offices, universities, transport hubs, leisure facilities — speed gates typically pay back through reduced staffing at entry points, fewer unauthorised access incidents, and a stronger first impression for visitors, staff and clients. Our team can talk through the numbers for your specific site.
